She published her first book, The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo, in 1969, went on to publish 13 more in the next decade, and has written 30 books in total. Many of us remember her from our teen years, but she has also written for children and for adults. Generations later, and with redesigned covers, Judy Blume books still have so much to offer to readers of all ages. Someone who made us want to read: all her books, and then all the others in the world. ![]() Someone who made us feel grown up by writing about things that we didn’t always completely understand, but that we knew were coming for us in the next year, or in two years, or hopefully, maybe one day, at some undefined point. Someone who wrote about the things that we actually worried about. There may not have been wizards and owls, but Judy Blume books held magic of a different kind: someone who got us. ![]()
